Album lore
Dismember’s Like An Ever Flowing Stream emerged from the crucible of Sweden’s early ’90s death metal surge, released by Nuclear Blast in May 1991. The session took place at Sunlight Studios under the engineering hand of Thomas Skogsberg, with production shared between Skogsberg and drummer Fred Estby. The lineup featured Matti Kärki’s guttural vocals, Robert Sennebäck and David Blomqvist’s rhythm and lead guitars, Richard Cabeza on bass, and Estby on drums. Notably, Nicke Andersson of Entombed contributed all lead guitar parts save for the solo on “Override of the Overture,” played by Blomqvist himself. This debut album is often venerated within the death metal canon for its raw yet melodic aggression, capturing the genre’s old-school grit without losing a sense of calculated composition. The title hints at a biblical allusion from Amos 5:24, lending a curious gravitas to the brutal sound. Tracks like “Dismembered” and “Soon to Be Dead” (which received a music video) exemplify the record’s fierce, unrelenting energy. While rights ownership has complicated reissues, the album remains a pivotal artifact, cherished by collectors and crate-diggers for its dense riffs and relentless pace.
